Match of the Week: Rugby Union vs Durham

Yesterday we headed to the freezing rugby pitch (cup of soup in hand) for the final Match of the Week of 2012. Our last game was a tough rugby union showdown against Durham.

As much as we would’ve loved a victory to end our 2012 MOTW coverage, unfortunately yesterday just wasn’t our day. It was a very tense game as the boys were determined not to be lose to the only team that has beaten them so far. However, the match ended 12-48 to Durham, who proved to be an incredibly strong team. Our side did put up a good fight and we are looking forward to seeing them bounce back after the Christmas break.

The men’s badminton game at home resulted in a fantastic score of 8-0, as did the men’s hockey match against Northumbria which finished 6-1. The wintry weather meant some matches were postponed, including two football matches and the men’s lacrosse game against Newcastle. Despite the disappointing score for the rugby union lads, the rugby union game against Hull resulted in a 48-0 win to the mighty Met.

With the competition hotting up and everyone desperate to make it to the BUCS finals in their sport, the post-holiday games are set to be more exciting than ever. We will be back in the new year for more sporting action from the university. From everyone at Match of the Week, have a great Christmas!
