So it’s officially here. The miserable autumn/winter weather arrived yesterday and put a dampener on the pitches – but not our spirits.
Our Rugby League match against Gloucestershire had to be moved from Carnegie to the 3G pitch at Kirkstall owing to the rain that had fallen earlier in the day. However, the boys were determined to play their best on the soggy ground to try and gain the lead over their rivals who – along with Loughborough – were also on ten points at the start of the match, with the Met side ahead on goal difference. Both teams played a strong game, with the home side obviously determined not to be beaten by their opposition after a loss at their last meeting. The match finished 6-6 which captain Alistair Leak told us was a bit disappointing.
The weather affected other sports too throughout the afternoon, with thirteen matches being postponed, including the men’s football first team against Leeds Uni. Not a particularly happy day for the basketballers as only the women’s second team managed a win. But the football matches at home produced some great results, with three wins out of three. The men’s lacrosse first team played a fantastic game, beating Northumbria at home 37-0.
Next week (weather permitting) we’re staying up at Carnegie to support our female footballers take on Nottingham. Kick off is at 2pm and it is set to be an exciting game between the two teams. Make sure you join us there for the penultimate Match of the Week before the Christmas break. Follow @carnegiesport on Twitter and use #MOTW
