Despite the inevitable arrival of the Autumn weather, we spent Wednesday afternoon up at the 3G pitch for the second installment of Match of the Week, and what a match it was!
It was the women’s lacrosse game against Sheffield that we had our eyes (and tweets) glued to – and boy, did our girls shine. The first half of the match was totally dominated by the Met side, delivering goal after goal to much cheering from the spectators. Sheffield did their best to even the score board after the break, putting up a fight and getting a few points for their side. But the Leeds players were unstoppable and the game finished 16-8 to us.
Post-match we interviewed Charly Edwards-Hampson, the captain of the ladies lacrosse, about her team’s stunning performance. She named Danielle Froldi and Hannah Bates as the Women of the Match and then went on to prove her skills in our ‘Lacrosse bar challenge’ (get it?!) and hit the bar first time!
For the men’s lacrosse second team, the result wasn’t as pleasing, finishing with a disappointing 3-16 against York’s first side. Fencing also didn’t result in a win as the points came in at 106-135 to Northumbria. However, Leeds Met badminton players had a hugely successful day, winning all of their games – three with a score of 7-1 – showing us they’re a force to be reckoned with!
So that’s two wins out of two at Match of the Week! Can we do it again? Next week’s Match of the Week is women’s hockey against Birmingham at 3pm. Make sure you head up to the pitch to support the mighty Met side and find out if we can claim victory three weeks running.
