This week, Match of the Week headed to a different venue than Carnegie. If you hadn’t heard (or seen the many posters around campus), yesterday was the Boxing Varsity at Oceana, hosted by Voodoo Events.
The event saw Leeds Met boxers and thai boxers compete with fighters from York and Bradford Uni. The Met boys had been training extremely hard leading up to the event and it showed. The night was a huge success, with Leeds Met winning every fight. The support that was given to the fighters was fantastic, with the large crowd chanting and shouting encouragement all through the event. If you missed it… you missed out.
In other news, it has been a busy week for many of our sports teams. Below is a list of who will be competing in the BUCS finals next week and how our teams did yesterday.
Last week, Leeds Met Snowsports took pole position in the British University Indoor Ski Championships. After the gruelling regional round in January, our very own Rob Machon managed to gain a place in last weeks final and went on to take the gold medal in the Ski Slopestyle event. During the course of the day, members of Leeds Met Snowsports also took part in the charity event ‘Ski2Help’. It included a 6 hour non-stop sponsored ski-athon to raise money for the ‘The Craig Macfie Foundation’. The foundation aims to promote local and national skiing and raise awareness about the dangers of drink driving. To do this, ‘The Craig Macfie Foundation’ raises money to help develop skiing across the UK by running fundraisers and organizing ski competitions to encourage the sport. We ended up with a grand total of £200 raised for the charity. All members had a great day on and off the slopes – and en even better evening being there to cheer on Rob as he brought home the gold medal for the second year running.
